I never set out to be a photographer. Not really. I wanted to be a national geographic photographer in high school but was advised there was “no money in the arts” and that I should consider teaching or admin work.

So running my own photography businesses suddenly wasn’t part of the plan. (Although to be fair, I’m not sure there ever was a plan.) I travelled the world. I tried various roles in customer service, tourism, hospitality and healthcare. I studied psychology. I worked in mental health. I became a mother. I learnt how to parent neurodiversity. I became a home-school teacher. I adapted. And somewhere along the way, I picked up my camera, not just for fun, but for survival.

Because life doesn’t happen in straight lines. It twists and turns and throws things at you that shift your entire world. And through it all, photography became my way to slow it down. To remember. To connect.

I’m Kerry. I live in the small town of Milton in South Otago with my two incredible boys, a duck who thinks he’s the boss, a couple of wayward quail, a dog who’s hopeless at fetch, and a cat with SERIOUS cattitude. It’s chaotic and beautiful and mine.

For the past 7yearsyears, I’ve been lucky enough to turn my love of photography into a thriving business that lets me do what I adore most, tell stories. Real stories. The kind that don’t need polish or perfection to be powerful. The kind that celebrate people just as they are.

From lovers to families, local businesses to creative dreamers, I photograph people who care deeply. About their work. About each other. About capturing moments that matter.

I’ve learned that the most meaningful images are rarely the perfectly posed ones. They’re in the scrunched-up giggle, the quiet eye contact, the hand on the back when no one’s looking. They’re in the stories you don’t always think to tell, but feel deeply when you see them captured.

So no, it’s never just a headshot. Never just a family photo. Never just a wedding.

It’s a memory. A moment. A piece of your legacy.

This little business of mine has taken me all over Otago and beyond, and even into projects I could only have dreamed of, like collaborating on a global campaign for Disney. But the best part? It's still the people. Always the people.
