I I never really set out to be a photographer. Well… not entirely. High school me had dreams of becoming a National Geographic photographer, until I was told there was “no money in the arts” and maybe I should look at something more sensible. Teaching. Admin. You know the drill (especially as a woman).

So no, running my own photography business wasn’t exactly part of the plan. (To be fair… I’m not sure if there ever was a plan).

Life took a few turns instead.

I travelled. Worked in customer service, tourism, hospitality, healthcare. Studied psychology. Worked in mental health. Became a mother. Learnt how to parent neurodiversity. Learnt how to single parent. Stepped into homeschooling. Looking back, I don't think photography was ever really the point. I've always been fascinated by people. What they are capable of, how they move through life. The camera just gave me a way to tell their stories.

Because life doesn’t move in straight lines. It shifts. It stretches. It throws things at you that change everything. And photography became my way to slow it all down. To notice. To remember. To connect.

I’m Kerry. A photographer, storyteller and creative based in Milton, South Otago, working with people across Dunedin, Otago, Southland, and all across New Zealand.

These days, my life is a juggle of parenting, homeschooling, homesteading and running my own business which, let’s be honest, means I’m not just a photographer. I’m also the marketer, the content creator, the admin, the web designer… and the one reminding myself where I put my cup of tea. It’s full. It’s messy. It’s a lot sometimes. But it’s mine, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Over the past 10+ years, I've built a photography business around one simple idea: people deserve to feel seen. As a wedding photographer, family photographer and branding photographer based in Milton, South Otago, I work with people across Dunedin, Clutha, East Otago, Central Otago, Southland and throughout New Zealand.

People often tell me I made them feel relaxed, like themselves, or that I'd somehow captured a version of them they didn't know other people could see. That's probably the biggest compliment I could ever receive. Because long after the camera is packed away, I want you to remember how it felt, not just how it looked. Seen. Comfortable. Confident. Entirely yourself.

I've never been interested in perfect. I'm interested in the way your child reaches for your hand without thinking. The way your partner looks at you when you're not looking back. The laugh that catches you completely off guard. The pride on your face when you talk about the business you've built. Those tiny, ordinary moments that quietly tell the biggest stories. That's what I notice. And that's what I photograph.

So no, it’s never just a headshot. Never just a family photo. Never just a wedding. It’s your story. Your people. Your life… as it is, right now.

This work has taken me to so many breath takingly beautiful places and spaces all over Otago, Southland, New Zealand and even parts of Australia. But the best part has always been the same. The people.
