The Value of A Photograph

I take a lot of photos. Obviously. It's kind of my job. But the value of a photograph has very little to do with how pretty it is.

Sometimes it's a photo of your kids doing something ridiculous that has you laughing ten years later. Sometimes it's a photo of your grandparents you wouldn't want to be without. And sometimes it's a photo of your business that helps someone decide you're the person they want to work with.

Different reasons, but they all matter.

Photos have a job to do

For families, photographs help us hold onto the people, personalities and moments that make life ours.

For businesses, good imagery helps people see what you do, get a feel for who you are and understand the quality of your work. Your photos often make an impression before you ever get the chance to meet a potential customer.

And no, you don't need to make everything look perfect. You need images that show your life as it really is, in a way that makes people want to know more.

Photos are to make us FEEL.

Make your photos work for you

One thing I see far too often is a beautiful gallery sitting unused on someone's computer.

Put those photos on your website. Use them on social media, in newsletters and in your marketing. Get some mileage out of them!

Professional images give you a solid library to work with, while your phone is great for capturing the everyday things happening in between.

The value isn't just in taking the photos. It's in having the right images for what you need them to do.

Whether it's keeping family memories close or helping people understand what makes your business worth choosing, imagery has a purpose.

And when a photo can do its job and make you feel something? Even better.
